I noticed in the first half that he wasn't using a tee for his kickouts, so that could explain the striking the ground aspect. His kickouts were great overall on Saturday, but I still have a concern about his size. I'd be worried about how he would deal with a ball dropping in on him, especially if he had to compete with with a big full forward. I was the far end of the pitch for the second Galway goal (so my view wasn't perfect), but it looked to me like the kind of ball that the keeper should have dealt with.
I looked at the tee thing after on TV, I am not sure that he wasn't using some sort of modified low tee. I thought I saw something, but could be wrong.
Like yourself I was on the other side of the ground and wasn't sure about the goal. But looking at it again, it was a difficult one. The defender was probably the wrong side of the forward which meant Comerford had to come for it. But I can't think of a keeper in history who at some stage hasn't been questioned about his abilities under a high ball, so he is in good company I guess.
I was standing behind the goal to right hand side, looked like it was definitely going wide, very strong wind, blowing diagonally up the pitch from the stand side, ball dropped just short, comerford was under it with a few others kinda bounced off a few and went away from him ( from my recollection )felt he was without fault in the scenario at the time. The secound goal was well taken but i reckon he should have went to his left not right as the Galway lad shoots
to the left, no biggy.
I remember in O'Byrne cup against Louth he was very good with the high ball and the physicality. I also think he is very confident on the ball and in organising the defence.I read somewhere, that it was observed by someone from the Dublin set up who has knowledge of these things that comerford is better now than cluxton was at the same age.He is brave on the ball dispite his build, which I expect to bulk out going forward.
Would you give him some game time in Leinster or would you give it to savage , or just run with cluxton ? interesting maybe, he might just get a little more protection from refs that cluxton doesn't .
