Over the years Wicklow sides have given Dublin sides a tough time in the championship. Baltinglas, An Tochar, Kilteagan and Rathnew are all exceptional sides, Not Only Vincents and Na Fianna but if I remember correctly Thomas Davis and Parnells when champions had tough games against Wicklow sides. Club football in Wicklow is fairly good. It goes in cycles down there. A team dominates for a few years and then disappear but come back again.
The problem in Wicklow is the fierce rivalry between clubs. It was bad years ago but not as bad now I believe. If they could get there act together as a county they would be very good. You see quite a few playing for U.C.D and other collages in Sigerson cup.
It was a surprising result to see Vins lose but not the big shock people are on about here. Tradition and Aughrim was worth a few points.
Hats off to Vincents for a good few years of enjoyment for us neutrals who have fck all chance of getting to this level. There is fierce begrudgery towards Vincents going back decades. Any club that is successful have a few “arrogant” people around, and im not sure arrogant is the right word. There are far worse clubs in Dublin than Vincents. So well done Ger Brennan and the lads.
