Monaghan have built well since last year, couple of other scorers emerging, even though it's only feb. Dubs hanging on really, if we can't get a few of the old main men up to full sharpness by rounds 5-7 we won't make the final. Less than a win Vs Mayo and we're struggling if Monaghan and one other keep winning.
On the Ros debate, they drew with us last year. One of their issues is not unlike Mayo, and us until Gilroy, huge hype anytime they get a bit of a run going, have to find a way of knocking it on the head, consistently. McStay brought a lot of attention with him, might take a year of slump to kill that, and then also for them to hold nerve, and not oust him or lose him if they struggle for another bit.
Remember, Gilroy presided over arguably our worst ever defeat (it was actually much more comprehensive than the 78 final, despite the same margins), and then the farce Vs Wexford, followed by the Meath humiliation. He was kept on only because of the qualifier run, and getting Tyrone on their down-curve, plus the tactics starting to pay off. McStay, with less to work with, needs at least that patience.
