Minor Football Championship 2017

#1

2017 draw:

First round
Wexford v Offaly
Wexford/Offaly v Westmeath
Meath v Dublin
Wicklow v Longford
Laois v Louth
Carlow v Kildare

#2

Tough Start but with the Minor Championship Structure not the end of the world if you loose, Meath beat Laois last year and the reward was Dublin in the Quarter which at the time seemed like a near punishment while Laois got Carlow, Louth and Offally and ended up in a Leinster Final

#3

Heard the majority of Dual players have picked Hurling this year, How are the footballers looking does anyone know ?

#4

Decent players this year. David O’Hanlon (Na Fianna) in goals. James Keoghan (Erins Isle) another Keeper.

#5

Some of these have gone hurling

#6

I know I didn’t know if they were done with football. Just some names that I have seen play. How about Karl Fox (Parnell) Ruairi Kerins (Whitehall) Dara O’Boyle (Mearnog) Adam Fitzpatrick (Davis) Gavin Sorohan (Boden) Darragh Jones (Crokes) Daniel Brennan (Syls) Ryan Meaney (Jude’s) Harry Ladd (Lucan) Cormac Quinn (Cuala) Lennon Bracken (Castleknock) Anthony Quinn (Crokes) Conor Kinsella (Crokes) Sam Jones (Skerries) Ryan Dunne (Vins) John Foley (Fianna) Adam Farrell (Boden) are others

#7

Jesus you’re mad for a list of names

#8

Where are you getting all these from? Most of them will never wear a Dublin jersey.

Can you get behind naming them and tell us why you think they are potential county players?

#9

I have seen them play . Some of them will make it I’m not saying all. You can tell me who will be on it then .

#10

I can’t tell you who’ll be on it because I don’t know the age group at all. You, on the other hand and as is your wont, have reeled off about fifty names with absolutely no information bar positions in a few cases. I’ve no idea what you are trying to prove. You offer virtually no information on individual players and no real evidence regarding those who will or won’t make it. Quite frankly it’s bizarre and you’ve been doing it now for quite some time for various teams. You don’t appear to be aware whether players are available or not for some teams and you’re not offering much in the way of insight. If you’re trying to baffle people, congratulations. You got me.

#11

You’re welcome

#12

Davy Keogh,Lee Gannon, Luke Walsh & Emmet Allan have gone hurling. Only 4 lads from 1st year minors in panel & none u have mentioned.

#13

There is an Under 17 championship this year also as 1st year minors won’t get a second year due to new rules.
Under 17 lads can play in both championships if selected.

U17 panel are playing in the Minor League this year. 1st game vs Carlow on Sat.

#15

Minor football has fallen of a cliff since the introduction of the ban on dual players. Hard to know if it is the reason, but the timing sort of suggests it is.

#16

Another kick in the face for clubs.

The U/17 inter county thing is without a doubt the most brainless thing the GAA has done in a long, long time.

#17

Does it not become the only inter county age bracket fully replacing under 18? Also means players won’t be playing and training during their leaving cert year for the most part

#18

If it was strictly an U17 competition I might be able to get on board with it but the fact that U16s can be involved is going to create enormous difficulties for that age group. And it will require an entire restructuring of the club season just to facilitate a few players. Total madness. There’s also the possibility that first year minors under this system could be studying for the Junior Cert that year.

#19

I think the leaving cert is more important and it gives an extra year before most players are thrown into the college system and excessive training between club county and college. It might take a bit of jigging to the club calender but how much in reality?

#20

Anybody know where they are playing Carlow I’d like to see it.
