You are very trusting in the competence of the refs and disciplinary decision makers!
Brolly explained in really well actually. The ref has discretion. He could clearly see the incident and adjudicated at the time that it wasn't serious enough for a red card (or any card!). He decided to be lenient as he's allowed to do, even though technically Connolly committed an offence. He drafted his report immediately after the game and didnt include any comment re Connolly.
At some stage between then and Monday, he added an addendum to his report about the Connolly incident. Only he knows whether it was the Pat Spillane's comments on TSG that persuaded him to change his mind, but it would seem coincidental.
At the same stage I don't think Spillane did anything wrong. I think its ridiculous to complain about the TV coverage. Connolly did wrong. Spillane is biased, as are all the analysts, but everyone knows that!
It's the ref who should be called out and asked was it pressure from the media or pressure from other quarters that caused him to change his mind. He should not have changed his mind based on media pressure to do so.
