Jim Gavin's and Players Record

#21

Are you including Bastic’s junior AI in that?

#22

You’re right, that’s a disgrace.

Gavin out!

Was Scully the only one to play in the 2017 O’Byrne that played yesterday?

#23

Yeah in fairness Jim Gavin’s management record in the O’Byrne cup is poor he’d want to sort it out fairly lively.

When you consider his record with U21’s as well he is just phenomenal. I know he is not as charismatic as Heffo but he has a steeliness about his decision making that is like Heffernan, no fear of putting young lads in and no fear of changing things and gambling when needed.

Some of his calls yesterday may not have work but his second half changes were fantastic.

#24

I have to admit during my few spare minutes in work today, had a glance to see what the Parnells reject was saying about JG’s reactions after the game, utter tripe.
This evening watching the game on Sky, and seeing JG jumping around with the players and his emotion was definitely worth the subscription. It really pisses me off that RTÉ keep going back to the panel and don’t show more of the pitch celebrations.

Of the 12 players who have 5 All ireland medals

Cluxton, James Mc, Cian, Berno, Flynn, Connolly, kevin Mc, Philly, Mick fitz, Bastick mdma, O Gara

8 of them, Cluxton, James, Cian, Berno, Flynn, Connolly, Kevin Mc. Philly featured prominently in every winning final

2 more, Mick Fitz, MDMA featured in all finals bar one final with O Gara and Bastick featuring in all bar 2.

That’s a lot of players who have featuring heavily in all finals. Although we have had many changes, the Core of the winning squad has stayed in tact.

#26

They’ve also lost stellar players like A Brogan, Ger Brennan, RO’C, Bryan Cullen and some players have taken a year out here and there, such as Jack and CK. They’ve needed younger players to step up to the plate meantime and they have.

#27

Its only gonna get better. Fantastic set up.

#28

Does Darren daly not have 5 too?

#29

Was dropped after league final in 2011 along with Paddy Andrews.

That time of year again …

Jim now sitting on 16 out of a possible 18 major trophies since he took over in 2013 which is unprecedented . Remarkable consistency of brilliance

I think 10 players have six all Ireland medals, Cluxton, Mick fitz, Philly, James, Cian, Berno, Flynn, o Gara, Kevin Mc, MDMA who now overtake vast majority of Kerry bunch of the 2000’s with only Dara o Se with six … Only a few players in the history of the sport have more than 6 …

The average age of the starting 15 was just over 26 years so the team is still young albeit a few of the subs may only have one more year in them . But I think they will all go again next year with hopefully DC there also

#33

Think it’s very unlikely DC returns to the current set up. Never say never but I don’t see it myself.

#34

Who is missing out more?
I genuinely hope he’s content with himself.

#35

I reckon he is. Just hope he’s back to play in the county championship at this stage.

#36

I agree.

#37

I was trying to work out whose 4 in a row was more worthy so I did a bit of research. Leinster is quite weak now but in the Kerry 4 era both Ulster and Connacht were very weak not to mention Munster. I’ll let you decide for yourselves … comments welcome.

So it’s year followed by games played -
1978 - 4 (incl 25 point win over Waterford)
1979 - 4 (incl 36 point win over Clare)
1980 - 3
1981 - 4 (incl 23 point win over Clare)
Total games: 15

2015 - 7 (incl semi final replay v Mayo)
2016 - 7 (incl final replay v Mayo)
2017 - 6
2018 - 8
Total games: 28 (incl 2 replays)

#38

Ours I’d say. O’Rourke more or less said as much yesterday on TSG when pressed by Lystser. Said it’s harder to win nowadays

#39

I don’t think Gavin particularly needs to be the manager of the senior team to continue what is happening. As I see it, he creates the culture, he dictates the style and how they train, and he picks the players.

I think for the first two of those (culture and style), he could do if he was in a higher role (and he could effect the other teams too). If he is dictating style and tactics, the managers will pick the players that can do it.

I think he is doing something really amazing tactically with teams, every other team that we play only have tactics to counter our tactics. But longer term maybe he is better served spreading his philosophy wider within Dublin then just focusing on the senior team.

Asking the guy to give a huge amount of time to the senior team for the next 10 years isn’t practical (I would assume), but asking him to do something with less time demands might be a runner.

#40

Not so sure there, his team selection, naming lads to do specific jobs, playing lads out of position etc is a key factor
