But it is impossible task anyway to say who was the best at anything really. I could make a very strong argument that Cluxton has been the player of the year every year for the last 10 years. But I guess being the best player and being player of the year is a different thing. The best outfield player in the country by a country mile is Connolly, but he will probably never win it for a variety of reasons. The Gooch had a few years of being the best player in the country, but he just didn’t tick enough boxes in any one year to get nod for POTY and I get that in a way.
What I don’t like is the insinuation out there that Clarke is sort of a rival to Cluxton for being one of the great keepers, he isn’t. He is very good, and he can have a decent year, but for Gods sake, Mayo people aren’t even sure he is the best keeper in Mayo. Cluxton is very possibly one of the best players of all time, Clarke is a decent keeper - there is a difference IMO.
