comments on pitch and JG in this short article

… but probably won’t line out like that

O’Rourke says more socialism.

This makes no sense.

No structure is going to make football or hurling more competitive unless it involves handicapping the best teams. Even if this is done along the lines of the American NFL I think the same handful of counties would rise to the top.

I’m all for tiered competitions but the county players dont seem interested nevermind that it would drag more counties into the club fixtures mess

Would changing the format change the attitude of Galway , Monaghan , Armagh who in my view made zero attempt to win their quarters … Maybe Armagh just not good enuf but the other 2 efforts were just pointless … Would changing the format bring in Meath , cork for example … Seems Lotta people wanna blame the format but it’s first get your acts together and second at least try to win the game

What must be more frustrating for players is been sent out with those tactics … No a county I often give credit too but at least Kildare are progressing in the right way

I know what will solve all this weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and make the championship great again, in one easy step. The Dubs get beaten. It’s a miracle.

It is the divide between administrators and players that is worrying. The provincial organisation is the primary problem. Money is now the God. The whole Inter county set up is now failing badly. It has failed many counties for years. It must be changed. Players won’t continue to turn up for thrashings and fans won’t continue to pay to watch.

for decades the top few teams slaughtered the rest, this isnt something new. Yhe poor old ulster teams used to get a hiding until cosy blanket appeared

1991 1992 1993 1994

But agree before that it was Leinster munster finals by and large.

It was worse in 1970s, Kerry in particular regularly won semis by 20+ points in semi finals in front of 10-15,000 fans. Look at it this year, its looking like a record ever crowd attendance for championship. Crowds will drop if there are too many more days at HQ like last Saturday. But this Dublin team wont last forever and there will always be a top 4, with 2/3 pretenders promising great things , like Roscommon this year.

stop showing my age Bosco FFS

Ulster is quite competitive now but wasn’t always so.

Cavan’s record - especially in the 30s and 40s - was pretty incredible …

1891, 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1908, 1915, 1918, 1919, 1920, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1928, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1962, 1964, 1967, 1969, 1997.

For all you ressers who still shop in Guineys and think Clarkes are the only show in town (and I’m not talking about the legendary place to get a fry on match day on the old cabra road), read this and get it together.:wink:
