One of my favourite Dire Straits choons…

#1202

Was in Croker today for a work thing and The Stones did a soundcheck

#1203

Happened to me for U2 Bruce and Billy Joel too. Something surreal about it. An appreciation of their talents (U2 aside!) in a huge venue for a small audience.

Actually, Billy Joel did his rehearsal in Croker and while I was at the big gig with my missus, We were asked to come closer with my colleagues to the stage so he could make it a personal tribute to us! What a guy!!! He is a supremely talented artist. Shame he’s so old now and not making any new material.

What a beautiful pianist!

Wouldn’t have 1986 down as a vintage year, but this was a brillaint track and would have been my favourite of this year but for the exceptional Ed’s Funky Diner by the wonderful It’s Immaterial. I have though the 12" version of this on vinyl, which is also sensational.

Bought this album recently and it’s really good. This is a lovely strange track … I thought he was singing something about a chicken, but it’s in Spanish ( la chica ).

Ever So Lonely

New wave synth band with funny name - can’t think!

Ever so Lonely not registering at all

The Sweetest Girl was by Scritti Politti - was covered by Madness in their Mad Not Mad album - their first in the post Barson era.

Ever So Lonely was by a group called Monsoon, which had as its lead singer a young lady called Sheila Chandra (sp?), who was also an actress in Grange Hill.

Great track from 1982, and one which I was very familiar with. However in a Pop Quiz Mastermind one night, I was asked it and had a total mental block, and therefore only finished joint first, and was crushed in the tie break, which was ten questions across pop chart history as opposed to my specialist decade on 1975 - 85. Never got over that! :disappointed_relieved:

#1212

All Day And All Night was The Kinks no?

#1213

Quite correct Alphonsos, but the Men In Black covered it in the 1980s - released it in late 1987 and it subsequently made the UK Top Ten in early 1988.

#1214

What song would best link UB40 with The Dubliners?
