Best of luck to Gilroy & co. I think it’s a positive appointment. To the best of my recollection Michael Bond is the only outside manager in 30+ years to win the all Ireland. It’s only right there’s a native managing the Dublin hurling team.
I think 1B should be no issue in 2018. Sure you don’t want to be stuck there forever but there’ll be good games against Galway and Limerick. Then another good game in the quarter final should be almost guaranteed. Throw the kitchen sink at that game ala Wexford this year and you’ve another good game in the semi final. So that scenario should be ideal given the circumstances. Also think the round robin in Leinster will help develop players.
For me serious progress over 3 years would be that Dublin are competitive in all games. Whether a team gets to a quarter final or a semi final can depend on the luck of the draw etc. But if they are competitive in all games that would be serious progress. Even in the good times under Daly the team had bad days and had some bad losses.
Anyway best of luck to everyone and it should be interesting times ahead.
