Actually, top level kickers are not thinking at all. It’s when you start thinking yer screwed. They are relying on muscle memory, and the subconscious part of their brain that has done this a million times before.
When you start thinking about a task, the learning part of your brain kicks in, not the part that remembers doing this before. That’s why you can get something you’ve done before completely wrong, whereas if you were not focusing on it so much, it would have worked out.
