If you list out a possible first 15, it is a serious team. But it needs older lads back, the young lads haven’t the physicality for it, it seems Cunningham did little to develop this side of it. Galway are massive down the middle, so are Waterford actually. We have McMorrpw at 11!
Hurling is a very simple game, you don’t need a master Jim Gavin type tactician. Because you can score from 90m, a lot of tactics are redundant. So we need players who can win the ball, players with a good touch and guys who can score, and we have them.
We also have three of the best players in the country in Kelly, Rushe and Sutcliffe, we absolutely need these and are wasting our time without them. We have potential best players in the country in O Donnell and McBride. And then we have the gasùns like Burke. They were bought in way before their time by an idiotic manager, but as Daly said, at least they are in now.
We can do ok next year. Daly would give us an impetus and a push, and I really like everything I see and hear about the guy. But the Gilroy thing is intriguing and could maybe bring longer lasting improvements.
