Some excellent discussions on thread, and it’s brilliant to see the passions being expressed. Great posts @Liamo & @Iomaint .
Some of the key issues I have in relation to Adult Hurling board:
- Very few clubs send delegates and key decisions don’t get to be thrashed out.
- Any decisions made then has to be brought to County Committee Meeting for approval (mostly footballers). Hope got name right @Boarddelegate1.
My understanding these are County Teams to promote the game and feed Minor-Senior panels with future stars. Why then only have 90 players on each when we’re seeing numbers like 12,000 playing the game. We then expect these players to take what they’ve learned back to the clubs when clubs mentors don’t have the same level of experience as Dev Squad mentors.
Playing Hurling in Summer Months:
Fully agree this should be done. Biggest problem we face in Dublin is it’s not viewed as a Summer Sport and @alanoc you know I’ve argued this with you for years.
However, although Alan had the same belief as me, he was still able to produce the stats showing the highest levels of walkovers, refixes, back matches etc occurred during the month of July. So, yes there is method in DCBs madness in not fixing CCC1 & CCC2 in July.
What has worked well from what I’ve seen is clubs running ‘Summer Hurling Nights’ and obvious the brilliant Camaint Tournament.
We do need a huge overall and restructuring of Hurling in Dublin from Nursery up, but, as was said above we need to get Clubs to stop paying lip service on Forums, Club Committees etc to Hurling. And get down to DCB and demand a change.
IMO Dublin Hurling has become far to stale and one sided at the top level .
