not sure where else to put this, but its sorta relevent.
I would know a lot of the templemore team who won the Harty Cup on saturday but when i saw them saturday night the effect of a serious amount of training was obvious on them, my lads are in class with them and they’re resonably fit… but the pinched look on the teams faces, the toning they have, was unreal. I imagine this is standard now going into the all ireland for them, which makes you wonder about the long term effects on kids doing this sort of fitness routine.
A few years ago in a gym we had a Strength & Fitness class being run by a lad who was training a club minor side, so for a few weeks we did that programme, it nearly killed us.
So, you take that as a base (Templemore were training most days, including Stephens Day and New Years Day) at age 16/17 and move it into Minors, U21 and finally Seniors. All the time they must develop as well. Hopefully the Dublin Schools are looking at this.
(That said, a neighbour had a word of advice on one of the team “in a few years he’ll get an awful belt in senior from a lad from the likes of Killenaule and that’ll be the end of him”)
