True…lots of if’s and but’s for both sides but particularly for Rochford considering the select-to-start issue of maybe two from Flynn, Scully, Connolly. Whoever Lee Keegan latches onto, I hope the order goes in to remain in the full-forward line. Goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway. Remove forays by LK into opposition territory & you remove a key weapon from Mayo.
Here’s the funny thing with how the game has shifted. We’ve cracked the blanket/mass defence issue, partly because Gavin got the players to buy into adapting from our more ‘gung-ho’ approach and partly due to us getting so many opportunities to play against it 'cos so many God-damn teams got sucked into using it, or at least a variety of it. The Kildare game showed how we could get caught out a little by a team willing to ‘risk’ having a few forwards (perish the thought!). I’m not saying we can’t handle it physically. It’s just psychologically we’re accustomed to blankets & it may take us a little while to adjust in our own heads, so to speak, to the different challenge.
Would expect Mayo to fly out of the traps & hit the front early before we set about bending the game to our will. You heard it here first
