I'll try but you need to be open to the possibility first of all! You See, in your post you say that Waterford have the fourth best set of forwards. I disagree. I believe that Waterford has been producing good forwards underage but because of Davy and McGrath, their development has been stifled. I see it as a hen-egg argument but you see it the other way. You think Waterford would be hammered so they had no choice but to use a sweeper. I look back on Waterford winning many shoot-outs under previous managers. They had a valley period and then Davy came in and sold them the notion that there was no option but a sweeper. They were still in division one!!! Where was the crisis? He created the narrative of a crisis as he needed to be the solution. Same as with Clare. They had produced great hurlers underage and he ruined them. They have underachieved for the last 4 years since Paul Kinnerk was forced out and Fitzgerald went sweeper with them. It will be the same with Wexford too. Massive fitness boost. Big bounce- which is a mirage in reality. Now he wants out as they can go no further with his system. The emperor has no clothes and is terrified of being found out. For any outside manager to do long-lasting good in a county, they need to train the team to have the fitness and belief to go toe-to-toe. Otherwise it's just a chimera, a ahort-term fix for a long-term problem. Wexford produced brilliant backs such as Ger Cushe etc. Now they have been told their backs are shite so they need 7 and not 6. It's wrong, wrong, wrong and based on the manager's own personality, failings and fears. It is nothing to do with the traditional counties versus the rest. Offaly and Galway, Wexford and Clare all won All Ireland titles without sweepers.
