It's a generational thing in that I think most RTE commentators were trained by a certain generation of older heads, they are all basically the same. Talking shite about the personalities rather than thinking on their feet about what's transpiring in front of them, and relating that back to recent games etc. I appreciate it's an art form, and especially on the radio they are juggling switching back to the studio and other grounds, but some of it is gash. Yesterday for example, both Darren Frehill and Brian Carthy kept going on about how fabulous it all is, everything - even the fouls and misses I presume, almost like it's all they can think of.
Dave McIntyre for example is a new breed, and the exact opposite of the RTE commentators in my mind. Uses stats, background, anecdotes to add to what he is seeing and decribing on the pitch. By far better than any on RTE, and the best in the game at the moment.
RTE would just drive you around the bend.
