I don't believe any view here, especially if it comes with a rationale attached should be described as 'utter horseshit', a view is a view is a view, and apart from one or two here who are just trolling, everyone else believes what they say and attempts to back it up. It would be a fairly meaningless forum if everyone agreed on every thing - I am sure every post here comes with the caveat of 'this is my view, but I am open to being proved wrong', mine do anyway. If I was looking for somewhere to just list out my opinions as fact, I would self publish a Mein Kampf type thing.
But to the issue at hand - if you play young players and alienate the older ones, yes in time the young players will come through and you will have given them the start. But was Cunningham given the brief with the job to furnish a winning team in 2018 or 2019 or was he supposed to make the most competitive team he could in 2016, I assume the latter - but I am open to correction.
Is there an argument that Cunningham hasn't done a good job - yes I think there is, and the main points of it would be below
- Some of the most senior players don't think he is doing a good job.
- We lost to Limerick and a very poor Cork team - I don't believe that would have happened in previous years.
- His reversal of experiements very late suggest to me that he is learning on the job. Either stick with things or change them earlier in the year. Not coming up the last game or two.
- Man management is definitely poor.
- Change of selectors and other back room staff.
Now, yes, there is a counterview, and to hold that counter view does not make your opinions 'utter horseshite', the fact that alternate views can't be argued without recourse to that type of argument is a flaw in the person presenting the argument, not the argument itself.
But generally this discussion here has reached the stage where any type of nuanced discussion is irrelevant as people either can't see the nuance or don't want to see it. Also as usual, one or two posters ruin it on everyone else by personalising it and making it generally nasty. There are some very interesting views here on both sides of the argument that are well presented. But it has been dragged into irrelevancy by some..
